Polaris indy 500 vm38 jetting

lundi 25 décembre 2017

I just recently picked up a 1991 polaris indy 500 for $500. The previous owner tried to be high speed and run VM38 carbs on it. Needles to say, the sled runs like garbage. More over, the MAG cyl is running way hot (havent done a leak check yet, but will soon). I havent cracked it open yet to see what jets are already in there. Took a look at the clutches and everything appears to be fine (i went ahead and ordered a trail performance clutching kit from EPI anyway). What jetting should i run in these carbs? from the looks of it, the factory carbs were 34s with: 6F9-3 needle, Q-0 needle jet, 280 main and a #40 pilot. Does this track or should i jet down a bit considering the larger carb? The rest of the sled seems to be on point.
thank you
-Frank
