Hey everyone. Im brand new to the sled world and working on anything mechanically so please excuse my ignorance and any stupid questions. I purchased a 1987 phazer with only 1100 miles on it. Compression test was 145 both sides and ran pretty good. The guy selling it said it has been sitting for a year so a good carb cleaning should be done. I have the seat currently removed as that also will be getting a new cover. I have read that loosening the gas tank and sliding it back may give room for the air box to move a touch and add to easier carb removal. Is this true? Im also leary of removing the cables and tubes going to the carb. Will fuel be everywhere? Does a 87 have a fuel shut off i need to know about? Also I am having a hard time removing some screws in the process that seem to be not only rusty but a few seem to be stripped. Whats the best way to remove those? Theres 3 of them right on top of that rail holding the carbs...PB blaster didnt work and im afraid to strip them worse in case there is a better solution. Also whats the black rubber box right in front of the carbs? can i pull that off?
