SOOO my saga with my 72 cheetah 440's continues. I got it running, few trips around the yard with just a splash of gas in it and she was purring. While it was idling I filled the gas tank up to about half and it started to sputter and died. i cranked it over but not even a pop. Great spark and compression. I think that ole walbro filled the crank case on that 440 full of gas. I looked forcrankcase drains and didnrt see any unless they are behind the exhaust and electric start. I rebuilt the carb and now with NO GAS LINES hooked to it this is what I do...
Turn it over with no plugs until the gas plume from the cylinders stops.
If I then just put plugs in it and turn it over, they stay dry and doesnt pop at all.
If I spray just a fine mist into each cylinder head and then put the plugs in. It would pop once or twice and then nothing.
When I take the plugs out they are soaked and I leave them out and turn it over until the plume goes away and then i go thru it again.
I have done this 20-30 times... The popping has turned into almost a rumble but no idle ... yet
Could it be there is a pocket of gas in its crankcase and only gets lifted up on top of the cylinders and floods only when it pops and tries to run?
any experience or direction will be appreciated...
Thanks... a vintage rookie
