Hey guys,
I am new to the forum and the textbook example of joining a forum with a sled problem, but in my defence I am brand new to sledding all together.
I bought a 2010 dragon 800 just recently for $2200 which seemed fairly decent to me considering it has a fully rebuilt engine less than 600 miles ago, and had all the receipts since new. When it was rebuilt the fix kit was installed as well. We have been getting unbelievable snow on Vancouver Island, so you can imagine how excited I was to get out and go for a rip. Completely drained the oil and gas tanks and refilled with new just to be sure, followed proper warm up procedure, got about 6 miles from my truck and the engine seized solid. brought it home, ripped head and jug off, and sure enough the piston on the clutch side's skirt completely failed, shrapnel all in bottom end etc. The other piston was like brand new. Curious what could have caused this??
-As far as warranty on the rebuilt engine, the shop that did the work changed ownership and is no longer a polaris dealer.
Next, I'm thinking about options.
There is a used 2015 800 engine from a Pro RMK terrain dominator for sale for $2500 with only 350 miles, and from what I have heard the newer motors are considerably more reliable than the 2010 liberty 800. What can I expect to do in the way of modifications to install the 2015 motor? is it worth it?
Should I just part the sled out and buy something newer?
What years of motors are essentially plug and play in a 2010? (if any at all)
So far my experience with sledding has been about 10 minutes of riding and about 1 hour of being towed
Im open to any options or recommendations, and thank you for your time.
