Hard starting sled advice????

lundi 15 janvier 2018

Howdy,

So, here's the situation and I could use some advice.

I have 2000 800RMK that I put a new motor into last season. Put 300 miles on it, all went well.
Put all the sleds into "summer storage" in June, by running the carbs out, turned off fuel, drained the tank, and put bit of oil into cylinders and bounce sheets everywhere. Then, in November, when I thought we would get snow ( wishful thinking....) I refilled the tank with ethanol free fuel, pulled the motor with the rope for about 40 times, put in new plugs, and it started on the second pull. Let it run for a few, and turned it off.

So then waited for snow, which is a bummer, since it didn't happen. Last weekend we went up to the mountains for a ride on the minimal snow we have. All of the other sleds started, but the 800 did not want to start. So, we rode the other sleds.

When I got home, I checked for spark, which it had, good compression, and pulled the plugs and pulled the rope with the throttle open, saw a bit of fuel/oil out the spark plug holes. Put the plugs in, pulled about 15 times and nothing. So, pulled the plugs, using a oven baster, i put a little fuel in each cylinder, and it started right up on the first pull. Let it run for a few minutes. Turned it off, then waited a hour later, and it started right up. Tried again the next day, and it started right up.

So, my question is why? The only thing I can think is that the fuel pump did not fill the bowls on the carbs after the initial start up for the winter, and it took the motor running to get enough vacuum to get the fuel going through the carbs..... Just a thought but would love others input.

Also, I understand that putting gas into the cylinders is not a good thing without oil, but the oil pump seems to be working when i pull the rope.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.......
