Guys looking for some help.
My father in law just have me his 1980 El Tigre 5000 F/A. It had been in storage for atleast 5 years, maybe longer.
Here is what I have done to it so far:
Gas tank had a think layer of old gas/varnish in it. I removed it and cleaned it with a can of Carb cleaner for 3 days, I dumped nails, bolts etc and shook it around daily. The old internal gas line was gone. I installed the a new gas line and filter in the tank.
I also installed new gas lines from the tank to the fuel pump and from pump to carbs. added another filter and shut off valve between tank and pump.
I checked the impulse line and it was in good shape.
I had both carbs cleaned at the local snowmobile shop.
It starts and idles just great. Going around the yard it runs great to about 30 mph. If I give it 3/4 to full throttle the rpms drop and if I keep holding it the sled will almost die.
The only thing I haven't replaced or cleaned in the whole fuel system is the pump. Do you think that the pump needs to be cleaned or replaced? Or do you think the carbs are still an issue?
I had a buddy come over and check the compression. One cylinder was 120 the other 125, so that checked out.
Thanks for any help!
