No Spark on 79 Arctic Cat Trail Cat 3000 and 4000

vendredi 21 décembre 2018

I recently picked up 2 Arctic Cat Trail Cats one being a 3000 built in 11/1978 and the other being a 4000 built in 8/1978 not sure if they are the same way in cars where 9-12 is the new model year.

Anyways, picked them up and the owner of the sleds were the parents of the guy who sold them to me, said they haven’t run in over 20 years.

I brought them home, cleaned the cars, drained the fuel etc, tried to start... nothing, checked the compression, had about 95-100lbs on both motors. Checked spark and nothing.

Okay so now I know it’s a spark related issue. I have tried everything I can think of, pulling the 4 pin connector and jumping the black and brown wires, swapping the stator with the other sled, swapping the CDI, swapping the ignition coil, buying new plugs.

Still. No. Spark.

What could this be? I have ground and have done hours of research but am getting nowhere.

Could it be that the stators are just old enough to the point where they are wore out? I inspected them both and saw no damage.

When I spin the engine over with a drill at decently fast speeds the headlight turns on but it’s very dim, also one light comes on in the dash.

Any help is appreciated.
