I have a 2000 Polaris 500 Classic Touring with the 488 liquid cooled motor in it. Picked it up cheap because it wasn't running. Super clean sled though - really nice. 4000k miles. I just went through the carb replaced all fuel lines and still couldn't get it running. Tested compression - good on one side and zero the clutch side.
It will run for a few seconds, but not long.
I've never rebuilt a motor in a snowmobile before. I assume a "top end" rebuild is in order, but I honestly don't know what the even means exactly....just pistons? Any suggestions for good resources on how to do this? Can I rebuild it with the motor place or do I have to pull the motor? How do I determine if the crank is bad?
Local shop said $500-$700 if it's just one piston. Can't be too hard if that's all they are charging.
