1997 vmax 500 xtc oil consumption

I recently purchased a 97 xtc 500. It seems to use a lot of oil, a quart to 2/3 of a tank of fuel. When I look at the alignment marks on the oil pump they’re lining up to be just bearly on the edge of the lean side. Sled has 3200 miles on it and great compression and runs like a top. Any suggestions. Plugs look a little dark but it never fouls one. I also a 600 xtc with only 700 miles on it. Any thing I should be aware of or problems about these models? Thanks
