Hey, guys I'm new to the forum, and I recently bought my first snowmobile :) I would very much appreciate if someone could help me with it. Because, well, it doesn't start anymore. I literally just had 1 run with it after purchase, which was the run from the guy to my place... the model is a Yamaha Rs venture tf 2007. Might be 2006, but it's registered in 2007 for the first time (4-stroke).
Keep in mind that we did nothing to the vehicle after transport. It just did not start after a rainy/stormy period of 3 days. We had it covered too.
Anyway, when I try to start it all I can hear is very slow cranking. At first, I figured it might be the battery, so I recharged it and it "cranked" (if I can say that) a bit faster for a while. I tried the choke but it doesn't start. The battery just drains itself really quickly. I've taken out the spark plugs and filled the holes with the caps again. Can't really say if they're broken or not, but there a lot of carbon on them (dry, black). Might be that I've tried to start it a bit too much. Gaps look fine, and the white part is really white. Next test up is to see if they spark (will update). I will also check the oil levels manually, as the dashboard doesn't light up by turning on the power (only when it runs).
First question: Do you have any idea what most likely is the cause? And could it be the fuses?
Second question: How can I identify if the carburetor needs to be cleaned? I've looked at it after removing the air filter, and I don't really see why it shouldn't function.
Third question: How can I identify if my engine is flooded? (which I don't think it is, because I haven't used the choke much)
Forth question: How can I identify the fuel line (pump) and check if something is wrong with it?
As you probably can tell, I'm slightly new to fixing up my own scooter. There likely many more things to check for which I'm not aware about. Taking it to a Yamaha dealer is probably the best thing, but my wallet says no at the moment. The previous owner was very nice during the purchase and helped us with a lot of things, even tried to call me when we had problems. I know that he is not using anything to keep it going temporarily.
Hope some of you can help me. I've tried to figure out possible causes for a few days now and it seems you might be my only option.
