Hello,
I'm fairly new to snowmobiles. Years ago I once had a ski doo safari 377 that I ran around on for one winter and that is my snowmobile experience. Last year a guy at work said he had a 1984 Yamaha enticer that was sitting in the corner of his garage and wanted to get rid of it. I gave him $50 and my uncle and I fixed it up for a couple hundred dollars and now it seems to be a good sled. Well, at the end of last season I decided to see if I could trade this old Ford Ranger that I had for a snowmobile so we could ride together. I found a guy that had a 1996 Ski-Doo Formula Z Rave that would trade for the Ranger. The sled looked nice and ran nice but needed the track replaced and some bogey wheels. He had a used track and a couple of bogey wheels sitting there for it just needed someone to do the work. I thought this would work out fine. I may be wrong. The more I dig the more I find wrong. The used track was rolled up and zip tied together. Last weekend I decided to get some of this work done before snow flies and found the track had a slice in it that I noticed after I unrolled it. This cut goes down to the white cords but the cords seem to be undamaged (see pics). The rest of the track seems fine. Can I still use this or do I need to find a different track? I also noticed that the exhaust is rusted through in a spot but doesn't seem to leak. Could I weld that and paint the exhaust or do I need a new pipe? Lastly, over the summer I noticed that there was oil puddle under the sled in the garage and all the oil leaked out of the reservoir so I refilled it to see where it leaked and now its holding oil again. Baffling. Does anyone know of a common leak on these sleds or a place to start? My plan is to run it and keep an eye on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is the pics.
