Helmet advice

Hello everyone. I know how important helmets are to any serious rider, so I was looking for opinions. I'm looking into the moto style helmets with goggles, however, I've only the older style full shield helmets. I stick to trail riding mostly where high speed and high winds affect the riding. So I'm wondering if the moto style helmets are any good for these conditions. Thanks guys!

Crank seal

Hey guys. Need to change the crank seal due to the belt shredding and tearing it out. It hasn’t been very many miles since a rebuild sonI was wondering if it would be stupid to try to crack the case open to change it from the bottom instead of removing the head and jugs and replacing all of those gaskets. And advice is appreciated. Thank you.

heavy smoke

mercredi 29 novembre 2017

1999 440 Sport Touring. Previous owner said it smoked a lot and used more oil than usual. The oil pump is set correctly and it has good compression on both cylinders. Previous owner had a qt of Cat oil in the trunk so I swapped the oil out and let the new oil bleed through the pump to get the air out. I haven't ridden it except for just around my house a couple times (small city lot and the neighbors must've gone crazy). It still seems to smoke a good bit. Any other ideas? I did have some Seafoam in the gas during storage. I haven't known Seafoam to cause smoking in my cars unless run through the intake system. I do seem to smell the Seafoam in this machine when it's running. Is that because it's a 2-stroke?

Thanks.

manifold gaskets/starter alignment

1999 440 Sport Touring. I need to replace the exhaust manifold gaskets at the block. I can't seem to find these gaskets alone without buying a whole kit. Anyone have a part number for these gaskets?

Also, it has electric start and it looks like I'll have to pull the starter to get at the manifold bolts. Any tricks to aligning the starter when I reinstall it?

Thanks.

exhaust pipe repair

I picked up a 1999 Sport Touring 440 last year. Something was loose inside the pipe so I cut it open to find the deflector rusted away. My brother repaired it but I'm wondering where to get a different stock pipe. Which year sleds can I get a pipe off of to fit this motor and chassis?
Thanks.

starter or bad battery?

At the end of last year this sled started fine with the starter. I took it out of covered storage and found the battery was dead and won't take a charge. I hooked up my charger/starter to it and hit it with 55amps to start it. The starter spins but the bendix won't pop out to engage the clutch. I can move the bendix in and out freely by hand. Is it just the dead battery causing this?

headlight switch rewire?

1999 440 Sport Touring. Low beam doesn't work but high beams do. I put a new bulb in but have no power at the bulb. I've read here about bad switches being a common problem. How would I just wire a toggle switch into the line instead?
Thanks.

newbie

Hello all,
I'm new here and will need some advice. My last sled was a snow checked 1993 Indy 440. Great sled until I started messing with it. I've got several questions about my "new" 1999 440 Sport Touring. I'll ask them in a few different threads if that's OK. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Tunnel protectors too tall?

mardi 28 novembre 2017

I recently traded my dirt bike for a super clean 1998 Skidoo Formula III 600 with 2038 miles on it. I am looking to stud the track (I ordered 96 extreme max 1.15 inch studs and 3/4 inch tall T channel tunnel protectors to work with the stock .9 inch track) but I am afraid that the tunnel protectors may be too tall as they are ever so gently touching the track. But the spot where they are touching the track only has lugs every other or every 3rd window, and the lugs are tiny little teeth that look like they would wear down easily. I ran the sled on the stand and the track seems to spin freely and not put too much stress on the tunnel protectors. So what I am asking is what do you guys think? Should I run these as is or should I take my jigsaw and cut 1/4 inch off of the entire length of the protectors? In the pictures, the protector on the right is the stock skidoo one (seems basically worthless for studs) and the one on the left is the new, tall ones.

2008 Renegade Lights stay on

I have a 2008 Renegade 800R Rev XP that all the lights stay on after shut down for maybe an hour. Pull out the fuse, or the relay and immediately plug it back in and the lights will stay out, until it is started, then the same thing. I have worked on a newer sled that has 2 relays, but I can only find one. The wiring diagrams I have seen are also showing one. I have searched other posts and they have said to find the trigger wire and trace it back. That would work, but none of the wiring diagrams show the correct color combinations leading to this relay I found, roughly in the middle of the sled below the handlebars. I have swapped out the relay with 2 different ones with no change. Obviously the trigger wire, whichever one it is, is holding the voltage and keeping the relay closed. I have red/o, on pin 86, another red/o, on pin 30, red/w, on pin 87, orange/w, on pin 85

Heavily grooved helix

dimanche 26 novembre 2017

So, I recently fired up my brother's sled, a '94 Indy 500 SKS EFI, and in looking it over I noticed some grooves on the outer surface of the helix where it rides on the bushing in the inner sheave. I've attached a couple pictures; there are three sets of grooves, roughly in the same spot relative to the adjacent ramp. The bushing is also grooved in similar fashion. Other than that, everything looks good: the buttons show little wear and aren't cracked, the spring looks new, and it's pretty clean. So, any ideas what caused this? My RMK's secondary with twice the mileage didn't have anything like this, and I can't see or figure out anything that might be behind it.

I figure I'll replace the helix and bushing, but it'd be nice to know whether that'll take care of it. The sled has always worked fine, the only complaint I have that may be related is that it seems a lot less responsive to power inputs than my RMK. Obviously it's got quite a bit less, but when you pin it at low to mid-speed it seems to take an extra second or two to spin up and move you. Hoping someone knows what caused it, and that it's nothing major!

Handlebar question 09 crossfire

Hey guys. New to sleds and this forum. I’ve got a question I need answered. Google was no use. I just fixed up a 09 CF 500 for my wife and noticed the left side of the bars is snapped. Question is... will bars from a 06 fit on a 09? Thanks in advance

Heated shield power connection.

So I’ve had my heated shield but have never hooked up the power to it. I was looking at the wiring today and I don’t see anywhere good to connect to (98 ZL500, no e start). I don’t want to connect it to just any thing.

Any recommendations?

Whats the difference Walboro WDA-1 vs WDA-31

samedi 25 novembre 2017

hello all, The history is im restoring a pair of 1972 arctic cat 440 cheetahs. cheetah 1 ran great on the jack stand but after 2 trips on around the house while idling in the driveway, it sputtered and quit and wouldnt restart. looks like its flooding. The book says it should have the Walboro WDA-1 carb and I had ordered a rebuild kit in case it needed it. The machine had been sitting for 4-5 years and im thinking despite new filters and lines, something is plugged or stuck open in the carb. I made the mistake of not looking at the actual carb on the machine. The motor is the TIA440SIB from 72 BUT it has the WDA-31 carb on it which looks like they used starting in '73. wondering if the carb is the problem whether its working right or not? I have a WDA-1 from one of the boxes of stuff i got in one of the package deals I made for a different cheetah. Thinking I should rebuild that one with the kit and trying that.
What is the difference between the WDA-1 and the WDA-31?
Any info and experiences would be appreciated... Thanks!

2017 SkiDoo Renegade Euduro 800 input needed!

So considering buying a new sled. I have been riding a 2015 Renegade 600 2-stroke. I came across a great deal on a 2017 Renegade 137 800 Enduro.

I'm mostly trail riding, and the guys I ride with are old....so I really don't need anything more than the 600. That being said, I always like having the best even though I will never use the capabilities of the machine.

So do I wait and spring order a 2019 XRS, mostly because I like the color scheme, or do I buy this Renegade Enduro which is a steal of a price? I really don't know if the differences of these two machines would even be noticable for me....and certainly I will notice the cost savings with this Enduro.

Thoughts?

Sno Pony 340 Twin Parts & Accessories

After many decades, I have decided to get the old Sno-Pony out and make her great again. She starts easy and runs like a champ, but the cogs/wheels that turn the track have been worn to a nub or have been broke off. As it sits, she is worthless. does anyone know where to purchase vintage snowmobile parts for my machine?

Returning to snowmobiling after 15 year hiatus!

Hello from Central, NY! My wife and I have the bug again to get back into snowmobiling. I've had several sleds since my youth. They include several Skidoos, Polaris, Yamaha and an Artic Cat El Tigre 6000. I know, I'm dating myself. The last sleds we had were a '97 Indy Trail and a 2000 Indy 500 XCSP (Anniversary Edition) Have gone to a couple of shows and all the new sleds look very foreign to me. We are in search of sleds that will have all the creature comforts. Not fast, but comfortable. One of my questions for the group is how far back from new can I go, and still get a reliable, comfortable sled? Price is not an issue, but I'm not looking for new as I know, by experience, how many times I'm likely to ride during a winter season. I'm one that believes all manufacturers produce quality products. I'm only leaning toward Skidoo and Polaris because I have good dealers located near me. I have looked at Touring models, One up Ski Doo Legends, Polaris Classics etc. I have never rode a new forward seating position sled. I would interested to see what older guys, like me, think of the ride quality.

Looking forward to receiving some good insight from this forum's members.

Formula 583 no lights, tach or heat to grips

Hi Guys,

New to this forum. Been out of snowmobiling for 15 years. Just inherited a '95 STX 583, that had been sitting for 5+ years. The first time I attempted to start the machine it only ran for 5-10 seconds. (bad gas) However during that time all the lights lit up and tach worked. I then proceeded to drain all fuel from tank. Replaced all filters and fuel lines. Now runs fine except....noticed that the lights, gauges, heat grips etc. do not work. I would appreciate any advice on where to start looking. All wiring appears to be in good shape and intact. Are there any inline fuses that I'm not seeing? look forward to hearing from anyone who can help with this!

Mike M.

1977 Yamaha gs340

vendredi 24 novembre 2017

My 340. Has a 433R engine in it just realized this when trying to get it running.
I recently picked this up and it was a basket case. Good compression. It fired up with gas put in cylinders it then picked up gas from the tank and ran for about a minute. Gas is staying in the gas line to the carb but it wont stay running. It acts like its running out of gas but it shouldnt be when fuel in in the line to the carb. Any thoughts ? Thanks

Backfireing

I have a 1998 ZR 600, I bought this summer. It started fine, ran fine besides dies and back fires when giving it gas. Tested stator and found it was fried. Sent it out to get rebuilt and put it back in and sled does the same thing. Sent it back, it tested fine and come to find out my meter was jacked up. Have another one that I'm going to put in this weekend but thinking there is something else wrong that caused the first one to fry. Anything else I need to be looking at. Can a Voltage regulator cause this?

Snowmobile for Teen

lundi 20 novembre 2017

I’m looking forward to riding with my 13 yr old son...

He has only ridden with me and had a Arctic Cat 120 years ago. So basically he’s a rookie and this is is first season of trail riding.

I’ve been looking for a Z370 or Z440 for him. But, recently I’ve been offered a steal of a deal on a 2005 Z570.

Looking for opinions... is this too big of a sled for him? He’ll only be riding with me, so he’ll be supervised. But I worry it might be a little on the heavy side and too much throttle.

Clam shell trailer no tilt

Got a 2006 Yacht Club clamshell tilt trailer that doesn't tilt. The trailer has a moveable axle that the PO had moved either
forward or back and used ramps to load quads onto. I want to use the tilt function so need to move the axle back. looks
like there's a couple of bolts on both sides that need to be removed, and slid one way or the other, is this something
I can do or does it need to go to a trailer shop?

2016 m8

Went riding with a friend today and his brand new (just picked it up Friday) Arctic Cat M8 141".

Something was definitely wrong with it. It would only run about 40 MPH tops. His motor will rev up and seemed to be normal and got from 0-40 really quick. Once it gets to 40 it acts like it has a limiter.

As far as I know, Arctic Cat doesn't have the same limiting break in mode as the Skidoos. And until the 2018's, the break in just meant you mixed the gas 100:1 on the first tank. 2018's add more oil and fuel for the first 25 miles or something like that.

'91 Indy 500 SKS refurbish

dimanche 19 novembre 2017

Hi all,

Now that the motor is freed up, I'm going to try getting the sled running. I'll be cleaning out the fuel system and going through the carbs. One question I have right off the bat: what is supposed to hold the top of the airbox down? Right now it's just sitting there, and obviously isn't going to seal and force air through the filter. Is there supposed to be some clips or something? Pics would be great!

Also, would it be worth taking the rear suspension completely apart, or just grease on the machine? The wheels seem to all be free and no excessive play. Anything else I should be looking for?

I've rebuilt several motorbikes and four wheelers, but snowmobiles are not in my bag of tricks (I've rented them before, but never owned one).
Thanks!

Phazer Frustration

Gents haven't been on the forum much. The past couple winters haven't brought much snow to the Midwest. Anyhow, got the sleds out a few weeks ago to start them and run some fuel thru them. One of my Phazers is giving me issues and I can't seem to figure out whats going on. It's a late 80s, and has always been a good running sled. Its delivering way to much fuel. I pulled the carbs and cleaned them. Put them back on and same issue. When I look down into the boost bottle area between the carbs and cyl , there is what looks like a lot of fuel, or at least more than there should. The engine idles, but its burning fuel, not much of a two cycle oil smell. Looked at chokes, which seem to be operating correctly. Need help finding out why so much fuel being delivered to engine.

91 rxl fuel issues

vendredi 17 novembre 2017

Hey everybody. I typed this long drawn out thread, but I'm on my phone and it decided to delete it all when I hit submit, so he's a shorter version. I just bought this sled for $500 and thought it just needed a new battery. I was wrong. The previous owner replaced all the fuel lines, filter, pump, and spark plugs, as well as gave me another good fuel pump and 2 extra ecm's. It would run on ether but died as soon as it all burned up. I replaced the battery, same thing. I decided to plug in a different ecm. The fuel pump started running and i realized that it wasn't before. Still won't start. After about an hour of tinkering I found fuel to the rail with good pressure, but the injectors weren't firing. I tried the third ecm, and got no fuel pump or injector click. Plugged the first back in and got injector click but no fuel pump. I started it and it ran for about 30 seconds and died, would start for a second or 2 and die again after that. Plug the second back in, fuel pump runs, plug the first back in and start it, runs for 30 seconds and dies. I opened the thirm ecm to look inside and found that it has no chip. My thinking is that all 3 are bad so i ordered a new one. I then decided to ground the pink wire and manually make the fuel pump run with ecm number 1 to see if it would run then, but now it wont run at all, not even with ether. Did I flood it or did i mess something else up? Also, do you agree that the ecm is the issue? Thank you everybody in advance

Upper Michigan Trail Suggestions (scenic trails, safety, etc.)

Looking for suggestions on snowmobile trails in Upper Michigan. Or, why you liked certain areas. For making new trips for groups, family, friends, etc.

Had people in group stay at Stickley Lodge Getaway in Upper Michigan. In historic Stickley, MI area (between Marenisco and Watersmeet, Michigan). On trails 2, 13, etc.

Good variety of trails and very scenic with waterfalls (snowmobiling over waterfalls also), mountains, historic areas, and more. Very scenic areas. Take a camera. Make time to stop and enjoy the sites.

The cabin right on the trail and convenient location to do many adventures.

Cabin has electric fireplace units, comfy livingroom, complete kitchen, gameroom, circle driveway, log and branch decor, and more. Sometimes it is harder to find a cabin for a group or family, etc. And, this one is right on the trail system which is really helpful to enjoy the area.

This is just over the Wisconsin Michigan border. Beautiful scenery and many local snowmobile clubs with groomers for trail conditions to be kept. Looking for other areas with decent trails that are taken care of also.

There is cross country skiing and ice fishing in the area also. So, great for groups with a variety of interests.

Looking for other areas with variety of adventures, scenic sites, trail conditions generally overall taken care of, places to stay for family, friend groups, etc also.

This area also has trails marked with locator numbers for emergencies, locations to pickup sleds, etc. Generally helpful marked trails with signs. Local area snowmobile maps which are good to purchase for new years as gas stations, stores, trails at times change.

Lake Gogebic at times gets ice pushes on the lake. Be cautious of those especially if you are not staying on the actual marked trail on the lake. Many trails in area including bridges going over waterfalls which is beautiful. Scenic trails and many on land or alternate trails to not go on the lakes.

Have fun and be safe.

2014 Assault Oil Leak

mardi 14 novembre 2017

Hello All,

I noticed a oil leak on my Polaris Assault.

Determined it is injection oil. Aside from maybe spilling during filling, anyone hear of any common causes? Oil tank, line, pump? I plan to dig into it the next day or so, was just wondering if there is a place to start.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Oil pump tachometer

Hi from Frenchtown

lundi 13 novembre 2017

Hi all,
New member, have some experience with snowmobiles but certainly not going to claim any kind of expertise. I just bought a Polaris Indy 500 (93?) for a song, just as a winter project. Not that I really need another project, but the price was right. And, I'm also using it as a snow repellent. My theory is that as soon as I get the sled running again the snow will stop. Last year we had around 8' of the stuff. I love winter, and don't mind plowing and shoveling some, but after about 7' I was kind of ready for spring.

Anway, the sled is not running. It ran a few years ago, was parked for a couple years and now won't even turn over. I'm betting it wasn't fogged when put away and the rings are just seized. I'll pull the head off and clean the combustion chambers, see if I can't free things up. If it looks OK, then I'll go through and put new gaskets in, clean the carbs etc and try getting it up and running again. Will read through all the "hey newbie, read this" posts before I start asking questions.

As for me: grew up on a farm here in MT, retired from the USAF in 2010, made the VA buy me an engineering degree and I'm working in Missoula as a mechanical engineer. I've always loved tinkering with small engines, and am a certified small engine mechanic. I actually worked at a Deere dealership while in school fixing mostly Kawasaki and Deere things, and have resurrected a fair number of motorcycles and boats from near death. I view the sled as just a fun project to tinker with, and my youngest son is pumped to get to help me get it going.
Looking forward to learning more about sleds!

1995 xcr 600

I just bought a 1995 XCR 600 with a blown motor. Body is really nice. Was going to do a rebuild but may have a lead on a 1997 xlt 600 engine from a totaled sled. My question is will this engine bolt in and work fine. If yes will I need the 1997 carbs as well or use the xcr carbs. Thanks in advance!! [emoji3]

1997 Cat zl40

I am a novice for snowmobiles. I have a 1997 cat zl440. I had serviced last year and it ran great. Can't get it to start this year. Put new spark plugs, fuel pump and fuel lines on. It is getting spark. Pulled the fuel line from the tank and it is coming out. Looks like gas is only going half way to fuel pump. I put sea foam into gas tank. Still won't start. Help!

XLT tail/brakelight Issue

Hi there I have a 1997 xlt Limited and I put a different tail light on it (more specifically off of a 2001 Polaris trailboss 325 atv) it had 3 wires so I assumed it had to be close to the same as the old one as it had 3 wires as well. I did have to switch all of the wires around on the old harness on the sled to make it light up at all. So without the lever being pressed one of the two filaments in the bulb is lit which seems right but the BRAKE indicator on the dash is lit up too. When I squeeze the lever the bulb still has only one filament lit but gets a little brighter like there is more power going to just that filament? And the brake indicator on the dash gets a little brighter too. So I guess the problem is that one filament isn?t doing anything and my brake indicator won?t shut off. It just confuses me why the indicator won?t shut off. The sensor seems to work because the lights get brighter? Is the different tail light messing it all up? I put a voltage tester on the wires and it won?t even read. If anyone has any info that would be great.
Thanks, Erik

Do you grease the speedo on etec 600?

dimanche 12 novembre 2017

My sled is a 2013 renegade etec 600. There is a grease zirk on the PTO side inside of the panel above the foot well. I've tried to push grease thru the zirk, but it won't work. Unscrewed the zirk, grease will flow through it. Is this meant to be greased on these sleds? Thanks!

1999 Grand Touring 583

So....I have finally been able to get something more modern for ice fishing as well as trail riding. Picked up a pair of grand touring's (500 & 583). They are both in good condition with the 500 in a little better shape. The 583 needs a new right hand trailing arm which I've already picked up the replacement, but I'm having a heck of a time getting the old one off. I don't have torches to heat up the bolts to free them from the shock mount bushing as well as the control arm bushings. Anyone have any suggestions or better yet a warm garage near Midland, mi to help me out?

1999 Sno Pro 440 fuel tank swap

Hi I have a 1999 arctic cat sno pro z440 (fan cooled) and the tank on it has cracks on the top and is brittle from sitting in the sun I assume. I would like to replace it but the clear tanks used on the sno pros are hard to find it seems. My seat cover is shot as well. I can find the black colored tanks from the non race cats though and was wondering if they could work. I will include pictures of what sled I have and the seat and tank combos I was looking at. I believe the tanks for sale came off of the zr chassis where my sled is the zr2 chassis. If I remember right my tunnel has an upward bend to it under the seat? It?s not a huge deal if the seat doesn?t work I?m more worried about the tank. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks, Erik

New Guy Here 1995 Polaris Indy XLT Special Carb/Fuel Trouble

vendredi 10 novembre 2017

So ive been trying to bring this thing back from sitting for 3 years. Im still having problems tho and thats why im here. The problem i'm having is the ends of the choke cables are all off on all 3 cylinders (no round thing or spring) but the choke cables are all screwed into the holes on the carbs. Ill describe the problem as best as i can. It runs and idles shitty but it does run, If you pull the spark plug wires off of cylinder 2 and 3 it makes no difference, im positive they are not getting fuel and i just relentlessly cleaned the carbs multiple times. Cylinder one is getting fuel and has good spark as well but the carb is puking fuel back into the intake (like a mist or small droplets), if you pull spark plug wire on cylinder one it will die. Now my question is what the heck is going on here? All 3 cylinders dont have the ends of the choke cable on, yet cylinder 1 is the only one getting fuel. The bowls on all 3 carbs are full.

This old timer suggest that the chokes were "hung up" and suggested i pull the cylinder drains on the bottom of the block and see if gas runs out (which it did) then just decided to not help me anymore so im not really sure what that means or if it even matters.

Does not having the ends of the choke cables on Affect these cylinders in different ways that would make the one cylinder fuel and the other 2 not?

I just put a bran new fuel pump on it 3 days ago

Looking for some advice on where to go from here

Thanks in advance

NEWbie, Canadian! 1995 XLT Indy 600

jeudi 9 novembre 2017

Hey all, new guy from BC Canada.

Picked up a 1995 Polaris Indy xlt 600 (SKS? Has another thing on the back). I paid 750$ in the middle of the summer.

I'm a sled newb. I have maybe 3 hours riding one but I'm quite mechanically inclined. First few things I did was the chaincase fluid, new carbides, hood cable, and I tried greasing the thing. Wow there's a lot of grease points.

I found 4 up front, one on the steering, and 5 underneath by the track. I'll do a compression test tomorrow but it fires right up and goes pretty good. Wondering what are some things I should get ahead of on this snowmobile. It has about 4000 KM on it, which seems ok?

Anyways, happy to be here, went for a little ride last week, and can't wait for more.

I appreciate any tips or heads up on common failures. I'm going to spend the next day going through my manual. I'm a bit of a maintenance nazi and want to make sure I get it all. Here's a pic!

What skis are compatible with my 93 ZR700?

mardi 7 novembre 2017

I recently destroyed one of the skis on my 1993 Arctic Cat ZR700 Wild Cat Mountain Cat. It has plastic SLP Ultra Lite skis on it. I went to my local cat dealer and they told me two of the metal skis that come stock on the machine with the saddle and everything would cost me $800. I could get plastic ones for a total of $400 as well. I'm fifteen and have been working since summer and pay for my sled, gas, parts and oil so I wasn't too happy to find they'd be this expensive. So I began looking for used skis but nobody around me seems to have the same sled I do, so I was wondering what kind of skis may be compatible on my sled. I've gotten offers for skis from an 02 800 mountain cat, would they fit. and if not what would?

Need advice with 96 formula z rave

Hello,

I'm fairly new to snowmobiles. Years ago I once had a ski doo safari 377 that I ran around on for one winter and that is my snowmobile experience. Last year a guy at work said he had a 1984 Yamaha enticer that was sitting in the corner of his garage and wanted to get rid of it. I gave him $50 and my uncle and I fixed it up for a couple hundred dollars and now it seems to be a good sled. Well, at the end of last season I decided to see if I could trade this old Ford Ranger that I had for a snowmobile so we could ride together. I found a guy that had a 1996 Ski-Doo Formula Z Rave that would trade for the Ranger. The sled looked nice and ran nice but needed the track replaced and some bogey wheels. He had a used track and a couple of bogey wheels sitting there for it just needed someone to do the work. I thought this would work out fine. I may be wrong. The more I dig the more I find wrong. The used track was rolled up and zip tied together. Last weekend I decided to get some of this work done before snow flies and found the track had a slice in it that I noticed after I unrolled it. This cut goes down to the white cords but the cords seem to be undamaged (see pics). The rest of the track seems fine. Can I still use this or do I need to find a different track? I also noticed that the exhaust is rusted through in a spot but doesn't seem to leak. Could I weld that and paint the exhaust or do I need a new pipe? Lastly, over the summer I noticed that there was oil puddle under the sled in the garage and all the oil leaked out of the reservoir so I refilled it to see where it leaked and now its holding oil again. Baffling. Does anyone know of a common leak on these sleds or a place to start? My plan is to run it and keep an eye on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is the pics.

1997 Ski Doo Formula 3 600 with no spark HELP!!!

lundi 6 novembre 2017

So, i just picked up a 97 ski doo formula 3 600 triple with two problems. The owner before me said that he fixed the wiring on it and it needed a new float and seat, but when i got it home it had no spark. I wanted to get it to spark before i messed with the carbs. So I tested the stator for volts with an ohm meter, and im getting voltage from the stator. I have tested all the electrical components from the stator up and i get spark up to the coils, then all the coils do not have any voltage, so I think the previous owner put the ground on wrong, because it seems weird to me that all the coils are bad. So the other problem with it is the carbs. The owner said that it starts up for 20 seconds then gas squirts out of the back of the carbs and stalls. I cannot completely sure if that is true or not but that is just what he said.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Transferring NV registration to CA

Hi folks,

I have been looking at used sleds in Nevada, but I ride in Northern California and the cops check for the CA green sticker all the time. Has anyone transferred ownership across the border from NV to CA? Of course the guys selling the sleds say "no problem" but with California DMV there is always a problem.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi

Hi

2007 F6 Sno Pro Accessories

I bought a 2007 F6 Sno Pro few years ago; I've used it a handful of times, but this year I am going on a longer trip (few thousand kms), so I want to give it a good onceover before it gets cold (easy), and add some convenience items (surprisingly not easy).

My problem is that I like OEM stuff (ideally), and going online to see what was originally available is not easy, and since I can't get the OE part numbers, and it is now hard to use the Google machine to find this stuff, and we have no local dealers (read: it's like 2 hours to the closest dealer ... each way).

I was wondering if there is a way to find OE accessories for my 10 year old sled. I'm hoping for a windshield bag, something to hold sparkplugs, ideally something to hold a spare L of oil, and something to plug into my "cigarette lighter" that has a visor-heater connector (currently it's wired randomly under the hood, and looks crappy). I've love something to hold my snowboard as well, which I realise would definitely be aftermarket.

1990 indy 500 diagnostic help

dimanche 5 novembre 2017

My 1990 Indy is spitting fuel into the air box and starting the air box on fire. I had this problem last year after it was running great, this year I cleaned the carbs and changed the spark plugs and got 40 miles out of it before it started spitting fuel into the air box again. It is only spitting fuel out of the left cylinder, I tried switching the carbs around but it is the same cylinder every time. Any ideas??

1984 Moto Ski Sonic LC (Ski Doo’s 25th Anniversary Version) – Restoration

I am the 2nd owner of a 1984 Moto Ski Sonic LC (a twin to Ski Doo’s 25th Anniversary model, the SS25) since 1987. The sled has been registered in Western New York every year since and driven lightly.

It has the original, untouched 462cc Rotax twin liquid cooled motor. The sled serial number is #420 out of approx. 500 mfg’d. The current mileage is 4,458 kilometers (2,770 miles). Over the years some parts have been replaced like idler wheels, bearings, suspension springs, windshield, track and one ski.

Below are some pics of a late 2017 bare frame restoration I just completed. I purchased another new ski, an idler wheel, two front axle seals, headlight lens, tether switch, heated grips and suspension shock. The hood & belly pan were repaired/primed/painted/decaled and the frame/suspension/steering & other misc parts were sanded/primed/painted gloss black.

Help with 1980 yamaha enticer

jeudi 2 novembre 2017

Hello Everyone, I have been working on a 1980 yamaha enticer 340 and needs some help. I was not getting fuel to flow from fuel pump so I went ahead and checked all the lines including impulse line, fuel tank line and carb lines to make sure they were clear and no holes which they were. Next I ordered a fuel pump and put more gas in the tank. When I pulled the sled overy I could now see fuel running from the pump to the carb so the old pump was indeed bad. Here's where the problem starts, after a few pulls on the recoil the fuel stopped flowing from the pump to the carb. I checked all the lines and they are all still connected and the pump is new so I don't think it would go bad after a few pulls. Why would the fuel flow for a couple pulls and the stop? At this point all lines are clear, tank has fuel in it, fuel pump is new and the sled will start if I spray starting fluid into carb but stalls due to lack of fuel. Any help would be appreciated.
