Reading in my Clymer service manual, it tells me to remove the crossover pipe between the carbs in order to synchronize the carbs.
But it doesn't mention putting something in its place, otherwise there are two big holes in the intake to suck air.
I wish the service manual would be more clear about this.
So, my question is this: When synching the carbs, do you block off the crossover pipe inlets? If so, what do you use?

One other quick question: What is wrong with the pistons? I see that people often ask about the pistons or have replaced them? Why? Is there a defect?
