New to the forum but used the forum to search for stuff in the past. I have a '97 Indy 500 I picked up a 3 years ago with only 1900 miles on it. Got it for $600 dollars and this thing is in mint condition as the other owner didn't ride much and he took really good care of it. Since I have had it I've had the carbs gone through & synced as the sled sat for 2 years, replaced the fuel pump as a precaution along with all fuel lines & fuel filter. Replaced primary spring with a EPI white, put in a EPI purple secondary and for the Helix I used a EPI QA2 progressive helix with iirc 4 angles on it, have the same helix in my other '98 Indy 440 and it made a big difference. Along with Kimpex plastic ski's with 6" carbides & 96 studs.
My question is what gearing should I be using on this sled? And what weights as they are they stock Polaris weights. I'm not looking for something that keeps up with a 600 or 700. I just want it to be reliable which those Fuji engines are, quick on the trails as that is what we mostly ride except for a lake or two here in Wisconsin. Right now it does bog now and then and I think it is because of the gearing being stock. I'd like to make it accelerate just a little bit more nothing extreme. I've been riding snowmobiles since I was 2 or 3 and I am 41 now. But the one thing I have never messed with is gearing. So idk where to even start on choosing the right gears for it.
Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me!
