Polaris 800 Intake & Oiling opinions needed

lundi 2 octobre 2017

Im looking for a couple of opinions on the Intake and Oiling setup that is on an 800 Polaris engine. I really dont know much about it other than a friend bought this buggy that had the engine swap already started. The guy he got it from claims it is a brand new never been fired Polaris race sled engine with 160HP :dunno:. The guy spent piles and piles of money on NOS parts for this buggy, so i can believe that the engine is new.

First off, Does anybody recognize exactly what engine this is? I know its a polaris 800 haha. He had blocked off the oil injection because it will not fit in the frame with that pump hanging off of the end. I noticed that the bottom end had a couple of ports where it looks like oil was supplied directly to the crank bearings? If this thing is run on Pre-Mix is it going to live? Can i just cap those ports off and forget about it? This wouldnt have been my first choice.... but i am just taking over someones project.

Second, take a look at the intake setup that he has. There is about 8-12" of intake tract between the carburetors and the engine. In your opinion, will this work? I would think that it would have a hard time atomizing the fuel properly with that much intake length. This is the main thing i was hoping to get some input on. And hopefully with the picture you can get a sense of what i am talking about. The carbs couldnt be installed normally because the transmission is in the way.
