94? AC 580 EXT Carb bogging, weak spark?

samedi 19 novembre 2016

I was brought a 94, i think, 580 arctic cat. its the carb model not efi. anyways they couldnt make it run, i believe he said they swapped the coil, but it had no spark when it showed up. first thing i did was bypass all the switches, and it fired up, but it wanted to idle right around where the clutch kicked in, and had one hell of a bog unless you pumped the throttle to get it past the bog. so i tore the carbs apart and they were almost spotless inside. cleaned them out anyways and put them back on. really made no difference. I backed the idle screws out 2 full turns and it is close to where it should idle, and i can plug switches back in and had spark. so someone had screwed the idle way in trying to make it run, and trippped the throttle slide safety switches.

So ive still got this bog. fuel pump has great flow, engine has decent compression(125 - 130). if i pull the choke while its bogging it doesnt change a whole lot, just slowly floods it out worse. if i shut the fuel off while bogging it doesnt really change until it starts to get to the very end of the fuel in the bowl. when i pull the plugs they are wet, not flooded wet, but like it cant burn all the fuel. it will run great once you get it revved up, but thats with no load and the track in the air. falls on its face under load. obviously ive tried 3 different sets of plugs, so im confident i can rule a bad plug out.

am i correct in thinking weak spark can be my problem. visually the spark doesnt look the best just with the plug grounded to the head, but thats far from scientific. the stator reaistance is within spec from the values i found. i feel ive exhausted just about everything and am down to the coil.

what do you guy think? i feel like im on the right track, but it cant hurt to get a second opinion before i go ahead and order a coil.
