Aluminum flecks in exhaust header

jeudi 6 octobre 2016

I have an 02 polaris classic 550 f/c that i recently aquired. i've been running through the works to make sure it's ready when the snow hits but i was cleaning cylinder heads and i noticed some oily residue in the exhaust header along with some metal shavings. i was able to fish a couple out on a wooden dowel and when i passed it under a magnet, it didn't stick so im assuming its aluminum. there isnt alot but im wondering if it's cause for concern. the cylinder walls are almost perfect except for the clutch side cylinder has a faint wear line on the exhaust side but not enough to cause the metal flecks. also the previous owner commented that he thought it needed a head gasket but i couldn't find any evidence of that. i'm waiting on a compression tester in the mail. currently starts fine and runs well. fires on both cylinders starts on first pull. so do i need to looking into cylinders/block problems?
