I am having trouble with my 2009 Polaris Switchback 600's electric start. It appears like the Bendix and the fly wheel are not lining up properly or they have some how shifted and are too far apart. I know that the most common problem is a gummed up spring so I cleaned and lubricated that. The flex shaft and the starter motor themselves appear to be in working order and they will engage the Bendix. When I turn the starter by hand the gears have minimal contact and slip passed each other making a horrible, metal on metal grinding noise.
This sled has never been wrecked so I can't see how they would have lost alignment spontaneously. All of the hardware seems solid mounted, I don't feel any play in either component. Anyone ever have this happen?
